5 Long Weekend International Trip Ideas from New York City & Where to Stay

I’ve lived in the New York City area for the past 5 years and have dreamed of taking a long weekend international trip since. While I haven’t done it yet, I thought it would be fun to brainstorm what a long weekend getaway from NYC could look like. Here are 5 destinations abroad with direct flights from one of NYC’s airports:

First up, Dublin.

For a weekend full of historic streets, cozy pubs, beautiful landmarks, and plenty of Irish charm. Dublin is about a 6-7 hour flight from New York City with multiple non stop flight options from JFK and Newark.

I propose a stay at The Shelbourne, a nearly 200 year old hotel overlooking St. Stephen’s Green and steps from the city’s best sights, shopping, and culture.

Next, Nassau.

Mix a little island exploring with beautiful beaches, local food, and plenty of time to relax and unwind. You can reach Nassau from NYC via a 3 hour flight.

Once on island, I recommend checking in to The Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort for secluded white sand beaches, elevated dining, and timeless Caribbean luxury.

Another fantastic option is Québec City.

Wander the charming streets of Old Québec, enjoy French-inspired food, and soak up the city’s European feel. You can fly directly into Québec City Jean Lesage International Airport in about 2 hours from New York City.

Stay at the The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenae, which is a historically charming hotel that will provide a fairytale-like stay. The hotel has elegant rooms and a prime location in the old city.

Fourth is Bermuda.

Spend your long weekend between pink-sand beaches, colorful towns, and slow afternoons by the water. Bermuda is a quick 2 hour flight from Newark or JFK.

I am dying to stay at the Rosewood Bermuda! This stunning resort sits on the island’s largest pink sand beach and provides a serene coastal escape overlooking the harbor.

Last, Lisbon!

It’ll take you about 7 hours to fly to Lisbon from New York City. Once there, wander colorful neighborhoods, take a day trip to Sintra, linger over long meals (yummy paella!), and take in the laid-back charm of Portugal’s capital city.

Check out a stay at Palàcio Ludovice Wine Experience Hotel for a stay in a 300 year old palace turned boutique hotel with a central location and an immersive Portuguese wine experience.

Let me know which of these long-weekend trips you’d be interested in taking. While I’m NYC based, so many of these locations are just as reachable from other major cities on the East Coast, including Boston, Charlotte, Washington, D.C. or even Miami.
